LOGLINE:

In this sci-fi rom-com, ANDY, a self-centered software developer in modern-day New York City must decide whether to sacrifice his comfortable life for a chance at saving the world, when DAWN, a mysterious woman claiming to be from the future, warns him of the impending extinction of humanity caused by his creation: an AI-powered dating app.

TONE / VISUAL STYLE:

This film is an earnest, bittersweet, existential comedy about finding connection amidst our “loneliness epidemic”, fusing sci-fi stakes with intimate, low-fi settings. Humanity's extinction is the background radiation, but the foreground is simply two people talking. Grounded in a realism reminiscent of "Eternal Sunshine" and "Lost in Translation", the melancholic atmosphere is offset by playful, absurdist levity. Beginning in a drab milieu of disconnection, it becomes bright and dynamic as Andy’s connection with Dawn grows, alongside his appreciation for the world’s beauty. It balances the mysterious surrealism of "Birth", with the philosophical heart of "Her" and "Groundhog Day". Dawn’s character – inspired by "Wings of Desire", "Being There", and "City Lights" – witnesses the messy miracle of the human condition with open-eyed wonder. The filmmaking will focus on the sensory experience of being alive and the humor in seeing the mundane through fresh eyes, approaching the apocalypse with innocence, curiosity, and hope.
